Teens Invited to Apply for John Randolph Medical Center Summer Volunteer Program
(HOPEWELL, VA) February 27, 2008 -- Area youth ages 14 to 17 are invited to apply for the Junior Volunteer Program at John Randolph Medical Center. This eight-week summer program begins on June 23, 2008 and the deadline for applications is March 31. Teens must have reached the age of 14 by December 31, 2007 to be eligible.
Volunteering is an excellent way to serve the community and can be beneficial to teens that are applying for jobs or completing college applications. To be considered, teens must complete the application, provide the names of three references, interview with the program director, and undergo two tuberculin skin tests and a physical. A background check will be conducted on everyone accepted into the program.
Junior Volunteers perform a variety of tasks in the hospital, including greeting and escorting patients and visitors, providing information, delivering menus and flowers, and delivering teddy bears to the pediatric patients. Junior Volunteers can also serve as Ambassadors on the nursing units, where they would visit each patient and offer assistance with helping to unpack, preparing for a meal, explaining how to use the telephone or just visiting with the patient. Other assignments require computer experience and organizational skills.
